McGovern Medical School welcomes Supriya Mohile, MD, professor of medicine, hematology/oncology, and vice chair for academic affairs at the University of Rochester Medical Center, as the keynote speaker for the 2023 Cheves Smythe Distinguished Lecture, May 18.

The Cheves Smythe Distinguished Lecture returns to an in-person format at 1 p.m. in MSB 3.001. Lunch will be provided to the first 100 attendees.

As a geriatric oncologist, Mohile devotes time to trying to improve care delivery and outcomes for older adults with cancer. Her philosophy is to focus on the patient as a whole, and not just the cancer. Her research interests include the evaluation of patterns of care, health outcomes, and quality of life related to treatment for systemic cancer in older patients.

Mohile also holds appointments as professor for the Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Wilmot Cancer Institute and as a professor of cancer control in the Department of Surgery as well as director of Geriatric Oncology.

Mohile received her medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1998 and completed residency in internal medicine at University of Chicago Hospitals in 2001. She completed fellowships in geriatric medicine (2002) and pathology (2005) at University of Chicago Hospitals as well.

The Cheves Smythe Distinguished Lecture was established in 2006 to honor Dr. Cheves Smythe, the first dean of the medical school, who served 1970-75. Smythe skillfully guided the school through its early years with his long-standing commitment to the field of geriatrics and education and his exemplary standards of leadership.
