Prospective Medical Students Meet Alumni in Austin and College Station

December 17, 2014

This month two receptions were held for prospective medical students in Austin and College Station. Students that attended have been offered pre-match acceptance at UTHealth Medical School.

On December 6, 2014, Bryan Townsend, MD ’92 and his wife Pamela hosted the central Texas area students. Austin area alumni that enjoyed the event included Shannon Abikhaled, MD ’92, Moise Levy, MD ‘79, and Dan Terwelp, MD ‘75. Students representing The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas at San Antonio enjoyed Mexican food and refreshments along with alumni stories regarding the medical school.   Two days later on December 8, 2014, Texas A&M prospective students enjoyed a reception held at the home of alumnus Tom Wagner, MD ’90 and his wife Jeanne.

Many of the students strongly believe that UTHealth is the right place to begin their medical careers. Derrick Miller, director of alumni relations, Kisha Kohl, admissions administrative coordinator, and Mark Chassay, MD ’92, associate dean for alumni relations/assistant dean for admissions and student affairs traveled to both cities to answer questions and provide counsel for the students and alumni.
