Two receptions were held for prospective medical students in Austin and College Station. Students that attended have been offered pre-match acceptance at McGovern Medical School.
On December 3, 2016, Shannon Abikhaled, MD ’92 and her husband, John, hosted the central Texas area event. Students representing The University of Texas at Austin and surrounding schools enjoyed food and refreshments along with alumni stories regarding the medical school. On December 8, 2016, prospective students attending Texas A&M enjoyed a reception held at the home of alumnus Tom Wagner, MD ’90 and his wife, Jeanne.
Many of the students strongly believe that McGovern Medical School is the right place to begin their medical careers. Derrick Miller, director of alumni relations, Kisha Kohl, admissions administrative coordinator, and Mark Chassay, MD ’92, associate dean for alumni relations/assistant dean for admissions and student affairs attended the events to answer questions and provide counsel for the students and alumni.
