Robert Sherman Bennett, Jr., M.D., ’83

Robert Sherman Bennett, Jr., M.D., ’83 passed away peacefully at his home April 20, 2017.

Robin was born on December 12, 1953 in Waco to Robert Sherman and Nancylu Crosthwait Bennett. He attended Waco schools, graduated from Baylor University and The University of Texas Medical School in Houston (now known as McGovern Medical School at UTHealth). He completed his surgical residency at University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He was a gifted surgeon at Shands and loved his time in the ER until his own health forced him to retire from surgery. Robin returned to Waco in 1998 and served as a passionate patient care advocate to friends and family who called upon him. He was an avid fly fisherman and other hobbies included wood working, cooking, and spending time with friends. Robin was preceded in death by his father Robert Sherman Bennett.

He is survived by his mother, Nancylu Bennett; his brothers, Jamey and wife, Melisa, and niece, Morgan Bennett; brother, Clifton and wife, Caroline and niece, Michal Bennett; brother, Kenny and wife, Debbie and niece, Katherine and nephew Will Bennett; and his godmother, Carol Crosthwait. Robin’s beloved Labrador companion, Baxter was at his side at his passing. Additionally, Robin is survived by many relatives who he loved dearly.
