Student Chapter of The Alumni Association welcomes alumni to “Grand Sounds”

December 17, 2015

This fall, the Student Chapter of The Alumni Association welcomed Robert Morrow, M.D., ’87, regional president/chief executive officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Houston and Southeast Texas market; Grant Fowler, M.D., ’84, vice chair of the department of family medicine; and Matthew Harting, M.D., ’03, assistant professor, department of pediatric surgery to the McGovern Medical School for the “Grand Sounds.”

Dr. Morrow was the featured speaker on September 29, 2015 and advised students that the “golden age of medicine is still yours” and “seeing patients is a tremendous privilege.” Students had the opportunity to learn about his unique journey from medical student, to a physician with his own private practice, to his current position at Blue Cross Blue Shield.

On October 22, 2015, Dr. Fowler encouraged the students to “stay curious” and take chances. He advised the students to “just jump” when it comes to taking on leadership roles.

Dr. Harting spoke to students on November 20, 2015 about his journey, and reminded them that “the journey is important.” He also posed the question, “What do your actions say about your priorities?”

“Grand Sounds” is a play on the term Grand Rounds. It is an opportunity to hear prominent McGovern School Alumni as they reflect on their time at our school and how the school prepared them for residency and practice. Speakers share triumphs, challenges, and advice with our students and alumni community. The program will continue to feature prominent alumni every month in the spring semester.
