New Leadership Appointments in the Pediatric Anesthesia Division at UTHealth

The Department of Anesthesiology is thrilled to announce three new leadership appointments in the pediatric anesthesia division at UTHealth. Congratulations!

Dr. Amy Graham-Carlson, MD, has been appointed director of pediatric sedation at Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital where she will supervise various sedation services. Dr. Graham-Carlson is an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at UTHealth. She completed her residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2011 and went on to do a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital that same year. In 2012, upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Graham-Carlson joined the pediatric anesthesia team with our department and became board certified in pediatric anesthesia in 2013. She has also served on the pediatric liver transplant team at MHH since 2014.

Dr. Olga Pawelek, MD, will serve as assistant fellowship director for pediatric anesthesia. Dr. Pawelek is an associate professor with the department and has been a part of the pediatric anesthesia team since 2012. In 2013, she joined the pediatric cardiovascular anesthesia team after completing a six month fellowship in pediatric cardiovascular anesthesia at UTHealth. She became board certified in pediatric anesthesia the same year. Dr. Pawelek completed her residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2010 and served as attending anesthesiologist from 2010 – 2011 before going on to do a one year fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at Texas Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Sarah Tariq, MD, has been appointed the new director of pediatric pain service. Dr. Tariq is an associate professor with the department and has served on the pediatric pain service team since 2016, the same year she joined the pediatric anesthesia division at UTHealth. Prior to coming to Texas, Dr. Tariq completed her residency in Arkansas in 2008 and went on to complete a one year pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in 2009. She was also the director of chronic pain service at Arkansas Children’s and has been board certified in pediatric anesthesia since 2014.
