Commencement set for May 13 at Minute Maid Park

McGovern Medical School will see 226 students cross the stage at the 2022 UTHealth Houston Commencement Ceremony May 13 at Minute Maid Park.

The university will celebrate its graduates at two ceremonies with three school participating in each event. Joining the Medical School at 4 p.m. May 13 will be the UTHealth Houston School of Biomedical Informatics and MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston and UTHealth School of Public Health will have their ceremony at 10 a.m. May 14.

Each of the 2022 UTHealth Houston Commencement Ceremonies also will be streamed live.

The May 13 commencement speaker is Dr. Brené Brown, research professor and Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair at the University of Houston. She is the author of six #1 New York Times best sellers and is the hos of two award-winning Spotify podcasts, Unlocking Us and Dare to Lead.

Brown’s books, including Atlas of the Heart, Dare to Lead, Braving the Wilderness, Rising Strong, Daring Greatly, and The Gifts of Imperfection, have been translated into 30 languages, and her TED talk on the Power of Vulnerability ranks among the top five most-viewed TED talks in the world at over 50 million views. She launched a new show on HBO Max that focuses on her most recent book, Atlas of the Heart, and became the first researcher to have a filmed lecture on Netflix.

Minute Maid Park will allow UTHealth Houston to follow federal and state COVID-19 safety guidelines, encouraging social distancing and disinfection for graduate and attendees. A map of the stadium and parking lots is available online.

Each graduate is allowed up to 10 guests, and students should check their UTHealth Houston emails for instructions on reserving seats.

Complimentary parking is available in parking lots A, B, C, and D. The Diamond Lot will be reserved for staff and vendors. Metered overflow parking is available in neighboring city of Houston managed lots, and fees may vary.
