The award committee for the Glenda M. Goodine and Thomas J. Murphy Student Award is accepting applications through Jan. 20, 2023. The award provides an opportunity for the student to develop a better understanding of the value and relevance of Family Medicine as an essential component of health care delivery in America.

The Goodine and Murphy Award was established in 2018 and is funded by Glenda Goodine, MD, and Thomas Murphy, MD, assistant professor of family and community medicine, Stanley Family Distinguished Chair of Population Health, and Associate Dean for Community Affairs and Health Policy.

Applicants for the award must have completed their third year of medical school and be in good standing at McGovern Medical School. A grade of “high pass” or “honors” in the student’s third year of family medicine rotation is required as well as participation in other family medicine extracurricular activities.

Award winners will be notified by April 1, 2023. The selected applicant will receive $2,500.

Interested students should submit a 2,000-word essay on a topic relevant and timely for family medicine, a list of family medicine extracurricular activities, and a current photo to program manager Norma L. Garcia, at Norma.L.Garcia@uth.tmc.edu. To set up an interview with the award committee or for more information, contact Garcia via email or at 713-500-7604.
