Dr. Stuart Harlin for Limb Loss Awareness Month – The Tipping Point

April 5th, 2017

Dr. Stuart Harlin, Vascular Surgeon with UT Physicians, was recently featured in an article by Rob Cahill for The HealthLeader, an online wellness magazine produced by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). The article covers the topic of limb salvage, and how Dr. Harlin was able to save his patient’s lower extremity and heal his wound.

Dr. Harlin’s patient, Guy Tidmore, was experiencing venous insufficiency, which is a common problem for adults.  Symptoms of venous insufficiency can be associated with leg pain, heaviness, achiness, and swelling.  Often, patients think that leg pain is a casualty of growing old, “But, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many things we can do — most of which are non-operative. And most can be done in a doctor’s office,” says Dr. Harlin.

April is Limb Loss Awareness month, which is aimed at supporting and encouraging amputees to build their independence, and for patients with chronic wounds to get moving.
