The Fifth Annual Clinical Science Program Research Forum

The Clinical Science Program at the University of Texas, McGovern Medical School, department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery are pleased to present at the Fifth Annual CSP Research Forum, 2018. On behalf of the faculty and directors of CSP, I would like to invite and encourage participation of all residents, fellows, clinical and research personnel, and students in this event.

Once a year we are able to come together to showcase and recognize the remarkable contributions of all our clinician-scientists and researchers to the fields of Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular surgical research. The CSP Research Forum offers a public platform to all our residents, faculty, and students for presenting their research findings and obtain valuable feedback on their work in a competitive setting. As a mark of excellence and in recognition of the dedication and hard work of all those involved, all presentations will be considered for the ACE Awards and the best presentations will be awarded winners. In addition, each presenter will receive a Certificate of Participation as a sign of appreciation for their achievements and performance.

Participation

The 5th CSP Research Forum will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 7:00 a.m.  – 8:00 a.m. during the hours of our usual Grand Rounds. Finalized order of presentations will be sent out early next week. All residents, students, and fellows are highly encouraged to participate, especially those who have had their projects selected for upcoming regional or national meetings. Projects that have already been presented at other regional or national meetings can also be considered for research day presentation.

Submission Deadline: The deadline for submission of your (Presentation) PowerPoint slides is Wednesday, March 21, 2018 by 5:00 pm by email to Dr. Harleen Sandhu or Dr. Rana Afifi.

Session Location: Room 2.103, McGovern Medical School Houston

Competition Guidelines: Participants must submit the PowerPoint slides to Dr. Afifi before the deadline as mentioned above. All presenters should arrive at the hall by 6:50 a.m or 10 minutes prior to their presentation slot, else would be disqualified.  Each presenter will be given a total of 7 minutes with 5 minute for presentation and two additional minutes for questions and discussion. No more than 12 slides (including title and/or thank you slide) per speaker would be allowed. All entries will be evaluated on content and presentation.  Judges will make selections based on the presenters delivery, knowledge and the quality of the research.

Winners and runners-up will be announced by 5 pm on Friday, March 23, 2018 following compilation of judges’ scores.
