CV Surgery Announces First Patient Enrolled in ACUTE-B Clinical Trial

October 19, 2018

The Researchers at the department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery of the McGovern Medical School at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston enrolled the first patient in the ACUTE-B study (ACUTE-B Trial – Acute Uncomplicated Type b aortic dissection: Endovascular repair vs. Best medical therapy) earlier today. The study is a one of its kind randomized controlled comparative effectiveness study of endovascular repair versus best medical therapy for acute uncomplicated Type B aortic dissection. The study will target a population comprising all adult patients aged 18 years and older who present with uncomplicated acute type B aortic dissection. It is presently approved to be a single center study with Dr. Kristofer Charlton-Ouw as the principal investigator. The study team has been screening patients for the past few months, and now, with the combined efforts of the clinical team, Drs. Afifi and Tjaden were able to identify and enroll the first patient into the randomized trial!

We congratulate Dr. Charlton-Ouw, the Principal investigator, and the research and clinical teams, for successfully enrolling our first patient in this key clinical trial!
