Cesar Nahas, MD, FACS, with the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is celebrating his one year anniversary with UT Health. Dr. Nahas is responsible for creating and developing the cardiac surgery program at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital (MHSE), which as
of this month has expanded its offerings, thanks to Dr. Nahas and his dedication to the cardiac care program.
Dr. Nahas serves as the medical director for the heart and vascular program at MHSE where he has spearheaded the cardiac program expansion to include a brand new cardiovascular intensive care unit, two additional cardiovascular operating rooms, and an additional hybrid endovascular operating room to support the program. A recent press release by Memorial Hermann quotes Dr. Nahas, “The expansion enhances our operational efficiency and provides state-of-the-art imaging to complement specialized cardiovascular care for our patients. Whether a patient comes in for a minimally invasive procedure, or requires a higher level of care, we are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care.”
By providing advanced heart surgical procedures in the southeast region of Houston, patients and their family members are not burdened by the travel associated with accessing advanced heart treatment at the Texas Medical Center. Dr. Nahas offers his services closer to home for patients and their loved ones needing his highly specialized care that is available at MHSE.
Cesar Nahas received his medical degree from Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon. Under the leadership of Dr. Michael DeBakey, he then completed an internship, a general and cardiothoracic surgery residency and a cardiovascular surgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. After finishing his training, Dr. Nahas was a fulltime faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine and was chief of the Cardiac Surgery Program at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston. He is board certified in thoracic surgery, and has extensive expertise in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery in addition to vascular and endovascular surgery.
Prior to Dr. Nahas being appointed medical director of the Cardiac Surgery Program at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, he was in private practice in the Clear Lake region for 20 years. Dr. Nahas can be credited for establishing and growing the cardiac care services in the Clear Lake and Southeast region of Houston. After finishing his training, Dr. Nahas was a full-time faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine and was chief of the Cardiac Surgery Program at the Michael E.
