McGovern Medical School Student Awarded 2018 VESS Scholarship

The University of Texas McGovern Medical School Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery is excited to announce that third year medical school student, Samuel Leonard has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Medical Student Scholarship to the VESS Next Generation Medical Student Symposium for this year’s 2018 Winter VESS meeting. The scholarship award will be presented to Mr. Leonard on the morning of February 3rd at the 42nd Annual Vascular and Endovascular Society Meeting (VESS) in Vail, Colorado being held January 31st to February 4th. “The Scholarship is an exciting and unique opportunity to attend the VESS “Next Generation” Medical Student Program in addition to the general meeting,” says Mr. Leonard.

The VESS annual meeting brings together vascular surgeons, fellows, residents, medical students, and other medical professionals from around the world to promote the field of vascular and endovascular surgery through education, advocacy and leadership. “The objective of this comprehensive annual meeting is to provide those attending with the knowledge of current thinking in effective clinical management of vascular disorders and insight into the future directions from critical analysis of investigative findings,” as stated on the VESS website.

Mr. Leonard was selected from several applicants and will be awarded $1000 to attend the meeting this winter. “I plan to apply to the integrated vascular surgery residency program in the fall and believe attending this meeting would be greatly beneficial for my future career in vascular surgery’,” says Mr. Leonard.
