UT Presents at the Centennial American Association for Thoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the McGovern Medical School have been preparing for the Centennial American Association for Thoracic Surgery, that was held April 29th – May 3rd, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts. Our research team’s work received attention on both the plenary and poster competition platforms. The research papers selected to be presented at this historical 100th Annual AATS Meeting include:

  • Propensity and Impact of Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma Utilization in Acute Type A Dissection

Dr. Harleen Sandhu presented and discussed the findings of this paper at the Perioperative Care Plenary Scientific Session on Monday, May 1, 2017. This research work was a joint collaboration between the Department of Anesthesiology team led by Dr. Shao Feng and the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery led by Drs. Kristofer Charlton-Ouw and Sandhu. Other notable contributors included Shruti Dahotre, Dr. Charles Miller, Dr. Anthony Estrera, Dr. Roy Sheinbaum, and Dr. Hazim Safi.

  • Intercostal Artery Management in Thoracoabdominal Aortic Surgery: To Reattach or Not to Reattach?

With Drs. Rana O. Afifi and Harleen Sandhu as the lead authors, Dr. Akiko K. Tanaka presented the research in the poster competition. The contributing McGovern Research Team for the McGovern presentation consists of Syed T. Zaidi, Ernest K. Trinh, Dr. Charles C. Miller, III, Dr. Hazim J. Safi, and Dr. Anthony L. Estrera.
