Presenters at conference

The Department of Emergency Medicine was proud to be represented at the 2019 SAEM South Central Regional Meeting this weekend. The conference, graciously hosted by the UT Southwestern Department of Emergency Medicine, focused on increasing diversity, inclusion and equity in emergency medicine.

Dr. Adeola Kosoko, newly named as the department’s Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Mission led the way with a pair of poster presentations from ongoing global health activities including:

  1. “A Simulation and Small-Group Pediatric Emergency Medicine Course for Generalist Healthcare Providers”
  2. “Evaluating a Novel Simulation Course for Prehospital Provider Resuscitation Training in Botswana”

Dr. Renita Goetz, PGY-2, presented and won for her Resident TED Talk!

Dr. Kevin Schulz was an invited panelist discussing the impact of Hurricane Harvey in Houston and the delivery of healthcare to vulnerable populations in disaster settings.

Dr. Kimberly Chambers shared joint research with Dr. Jonathan Rogg in a poster presentation on their “Multicenter Study of the Impact of Hurricane Harvey on Emergency Department Volume”. She also presented her experiences in research on a panel for finding your niche in emergency medicine alongside Dr. Tom Fadial.

Our chair, Dr. Bentley Bobrow, joined a panel of department chairs discussing perspectives on scholarship and sponsorship.

Other participating faculty members included Dr. Sam Luber and Dr. Jonathan Giordano who contributed their experiences on expert panels for faculty promotion and medical student clerkship and interview success.
