Department of Emergency Medicine: COVID-19 Response

To our Houston community,

Stop sign at building entrance

UTHealth sites have instituted screening policies to protect patients and visitors.

Your adherence to social distancing is working – thank you. As emergency medicine physicians, we have noticed a sharp decline in emergency center visits since the “Stay Home, Work Safe” order was announced.

This buffer has allowed us to significantly improve our preparedness for what undoubtedly awaits our community. Our physicians and department leaders have been working tirelessly to create response plans at our hospital sites to ensure optimal care and safety for our patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.

Our clinicians are also working with physicians from around the country (including hard-hit regions like New York) to learn from their experiences and develop the most up-to-date treatment plans.

Thank you for your help during these difficult times. We urge you to maintain your social distancing efforts and to stay safe. We hope you stay healthy and don’t require emergency medical care, but if you do, we are ready.

Thank you,
The Department of Emergency Medicine
