The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division has seventeen members, eight of whom are board certified/eligible in pediatric emergency medicine. We currently staff three Pediatric Emergency Departments in the Houston and surrounding areas. Our main Pediatric Emergency Department with 13 patient care areas and 2 separate pediatric trauma bays, is located at the Texas Medical Center’s (TMC) Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, a tertiary care referral center and the teaching hospital at McGovern Medical School . It was Houston’s first and busiest Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. We provide 24-hour care to over 18,000 patients per year with an average admission rate of 28%.
Our care team at TMC includes board certified/eligible pediatric emergency medicine-trained attending physicians, emergency medicine and pediatric residents, pediatric nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists, and starting in 2014, an ACGME-approved Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow. Available for consultation are a vast array of pediatric and surgical subspecialties, as well as forensic and psychiatry response teams.
