Fellowship Goals

Year 1 (Pediatrics Trained) or Year 1 (EM trained)

  • Complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support course
  • Complete Pediatric Advanced Life Support course
  • Complete Advanced Trauma Life Support course
  • Give one Pediatric Emergency Medicine Core Lecture to EM residents, pediatric residents or medical students
  • Prepare one Journal club for the pediatric fellows and pediatric emergency medicine faculty (under supervision and guidance from PEM faculty/mentor)
  • Under faculty supervision organize and present cases at one QA conference
  • Submit one case to AAP Emergi-Quiz sponsored by AAP Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section (either first or second year) or submit to the national PEM PIX photo competition.
  • Attend 80% of the required conferences (excludes away rotations/vacation)
  • Start a research project – complete relevant literature review and IRB application
  • Moonlighting permitted after 6 months

Year 2 (Pediatrics Trained)

  • Participate in teaching one PALS course or simulation course to EM residents
  • Give one Pediatric Emergency Medicine core lecture to EM residents, pediatric residents or medical students
  • Prepare one Journal Club for the pediatric fellows and pediatric emergency medicine faculty (under supervision and guidance from PEM faculty/mentor)
  • Prepare one departmental QA conference for EM faculty and fellows
  • Prepare one diagnostic imaging conference for EM/radiology interdisciplinary staff.
  • Attend 80% of the required conferences
  • Submit one case to either the national PEM PIX photo competition or AAP Emergi-Quiz sponsored by AAP Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section (either first or second year)
  • Have research idea formalized for presentation at National Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellows Conference
  • Submit one QA project, book chapter, review article retrospective study or case series for presentation at National Conference

Year 3 (Pediatrics Trained) or Year 2 (EM trained)

  • Complete research project including data collection, analysis and manuscript preparation. If applicable, submit for publication in a peer reviewed journal.
  • Participate in teaching one PALS course per year
  • Give two Pediatric Emergency Medicine core lectures to EM residents, pediatric residents or medical students
  • Prepare one Journal Club for the pediatric fellows and pediatric emergency medicine faculty (under supervision and guidance from PEM faculty/mentor)
  • Prepare one departmental QA conference for EM department faculty and fellows.
  • Prepare a reflection journal of learning points on professionalism from patient encounters
  • Attend 80% of the required conferences
