Participation on standing committees is limited to faculty. Requests for service are emailed from the Office of Faculty Affairs in May. The Committee on Committees is responsible for generating a slate of standing committee members for review and approval by the Dean. The Admissions Committee is responsible for evaluating student applicants for Medical School admission. Members typically interview weekly during the interview season (September to December) and also meet weekly (September to January) to review candidates. Members are requested to interview at least two applicants, preferably three, each interview date throughout the interview season. Serious time commitment. Material is distributed electronically for interviews and committee meetings.
Requirement for this Committee includes previous experience as an ad-hoc interviewer.
Continuing Medical Education Committee
The purpose of the Continuing Medical Education Committee is to discuss ongoing educational needs of faculty and act as an advisory committee with regard to strategic direction for the overall Continuing Medical Education program.
The Curriculum Committee is responsible for the overall design, management and evaluation of the Medical School curriculum. The Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
The purpose of the Diversity Committee is to work towards aligning Medical School recruitment and retention efforts with the UTHealth Strategic Goal of developing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive academic and administrative work force. We foster a community of faculty and staff that mirrors, culturally, the local Texas community that we serve. The Committee meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 12:00 p.m.
Faculty Appointments, Promotions and Tenure Committee
The purpose of the Faculty Appointments, Promotions and Tenure Committee is to evaluate the credentials and qualifications of faculty appointments, promotion in rank, and tenure. Committee meets on Thursdays @ 2:00 p.m., 2-4 times a month from December through March and 1-2 times monthly thereafter.
Only full Professors are eligible to serve.
Faculty Compensation Committee
The purpose of the Faculty Compensation Committee is to advise the Dean on matters related to faculty compensation. Committee meets monthly.
Faculty Development Leave Committee
The purpose of the Faculty Development Leave Committee is to review and recommend proposals for Faculty Development Leave. Committee meets as needed.
Only Associate Professor and Professor ranks are eligible to serve.
Graduate Medical Education Committee
The purpose of the Graduate Medical Education Committee is to oversee all graduate medical education programs sponsored by UTMSH. Members may be asked to serve on subcommittees, review committees, or task forces related to graduate medical education. The Committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 4:00 p.m.
Graduate Student Education Committee
The Graduate Student Education Committee seeks to raise the level of awareness of graduate (MS/PhD) education at the Medical School, in partnership with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, with the goal of contributing to the long-range development of the student and ultimately, the early career researcher. The Committee meets on the 3rd Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
The Research Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Dean and Administrative Council on matters pertaining to the Medical School research enterprise and makes recommendations for infrastructural improvements and developments. The Committee meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
Student Evaluations and Promotions Committee
The purpose of the Student Evaluations and Promotions Committee is to evaluate medical students’ academic and professional performance and their suitability to undertake the practice of medicine. Committee meets as needed.
