Biography

Dr. Mehta is an assistant professor of internal medicine at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. He earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and honed his skills as a physician at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Boston where he completed his residency. Prior to joining the University of Texas, Dr. Mehta worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico providing care to patients at The Heart Hospital of New Mexico and Lovelace Medical Center.

To date, Dr Mehta has lived in eight countries across four different continents. This global perspective has developed into a deep passion towards the mental models, analytical frameworks and culture sensitive approaches to critical thinking and problem-solving. He is also deeply interested in the intersection between provider cognition and artificial intelligence and how that will shape the future of health care delivery and health care economics.

Dr. Mehta’s treatment philosophy is to empower patients with a clear understanding of their own condition and guide them towards optimal clinical options while providing them the compassion and support during their most vulnerable times. His teaching philosophy is to challenge his students to become world class critical thinkers in order to provide their patients with the most effective, cost efficient and compassionate care.

Dr. Mehta is fluent in 4 languages including Spanish, Gujarati and Hindi. In his spare time, Dr. Mehta enjoys spending his time with his family while pursuing his hobbies of jiu jitsu, yoga, golf and surfing.
