In her most recent university-wide e-newsletter, Dean Barbara Stoll highlighted the achievement of Dr. Cesar Arias, an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases with the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Arias is one of two UTHealth faculty to receive a UT STAR Award this year. This award, part of the Faculty Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention Program created by the UT System Board of Regents in 2004, approves funds to be allocated to institutions in order to attract and retain the best-qualified faculty. STAR Awards require that the institution match the funds provided to the faculty, funds which can then be used to purchase equipment or renovate existing facilities. Dr. Arias is the recipient of a UT System Translational Retention STAR Award for his work with the new McGovern Medical School Center for Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbial Genomics.
