Biography

Dr. Baker rejoined the UTHealth General Medicine faculty in November 2017 after a 30 year journey through academic, clinical, and administrative medicine. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1982, and then completed an Internal Medicine residency at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston (UTHealth), followed by Chief Residency in 1986 and then faculty appointment at UTHealth in 1987. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and is a Charter Member of the Society of Hospital Medicine. He has been responsible for the design, implementation and supervision of multiple Hospitalist programs across Texas in both academic and private practice venues. His primary focus is the coordination of high quality and cost conscious health care for all patients. He considers himself fortunate to have learned under the guidance of exceptional teaching physicians such as UTHealth legend Walter M. Kirkendall, MD, and because of this, he feels an obligation to pass along to the next generation of physicians those pearls of wisdom he has picked up throughout his career.
