Omowunmi Aibana, MD, MPH

Biography

Dr. Wunmi Aibana obtained her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and completed a combined Internal Medicine and Global Health Equity Residency training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School. After residency, she served as Clinical Manager for Partners in Health in rural Malawi and later completed post-doctoral research training at Harvard and Brown Medical Schools focusing on epidemiologic and operational tuberculosis research.

In 2015, she joined McGovern Medical School as faculty in the Internal Medicine Department where her primary clinical role is as a teaching hospitalist at LBJ Hospital. Her continued endeavors in global health include co-founding the school’s Center for Global Health and serving as co-director of the Global Health Scholarly Concentration for medical students. In addition to global health, she has been involved in various innovative curriculum implementation projects at McGovern including the creation of a new Leadership in Medicine Track for IM residents and a new Social Justice and Advocacy Longitudinal Theme for the undergraduate medical curriculum. She is also a champion of the use of holistic review principles in graduate medical education recruitment and has led successful efforts to enhance diversity in the IM residency program. She currently serves as an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program.
