R. Tomás DaVee, MD, MSCI, FASGE

Dr. DaVee is assistant professor of medicine in the division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. He earned his medical degree from The University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, following his completion of a microbiology degree at Kansas State University. He honed his skills as a physician at Stanford University School of Medicine in California where he completed internship and residency. His medical training continued at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Tennessee where he simultaneously completed a fellowship specializing in gastroenterology, and a master of science in clinical investigation (MSCI). His journey continued with an advanced fellowship in endoscopy at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
A diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. DaVee’s interests include the following: prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancers and disorders of the digestive system, reflux disorders, hiatal hernias, esophageal cancer, Barrett’s esophagus, pancreatic cancer and cysts, pancreatic cancer screening, pancreatitis, treatment of jaundice, bile duct blockages, strictures and stones, placement of stents to open cancerous obstructions, removal of large colon polyps and tumors. Dr. DaVee is well-trained in the use of advanced technology to remove or destroy precancerous growths and polyps, obtain deep tissue biopsy / FNA under guidance of endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts, treatment of gastric and esophageal varices, and feeding tube placement.
Dr. DaVee’s modus operandi is to provide precise medical care that is customized to each person’s specific issues. He takes time to explain the details your procedures and the process that guides the medical decisions used to ensure the best outcomes for his patients. Dr. DaVee works with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety of every procedure and incorporates the use of checklists and drills to ensure rapid turn around with minimal sedation. His goal is to provide the highest-quality care that blends state-of-the art technology with a person-centered approach. He is accepting patients 18 years and older and speaks Spanish fluently.
A resident of Houston, Dr. DaVee enjoys spending time with his family, and stays in shape by playing baseball, football, soccer, racquetball, hiking, and mutton busting.
