Biography

Dr. Shashideep Singhal attended medical school at the Delhi University in India, followed by residency training at Chicago Medical School. He completed his fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Brooklyn Hospital Center, New York. He was appointed chief fellow in the last year of his fellowship and gained expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures. After completing his fellowship he joined Columbia University as faculty. He has experience in treating culturally diverse patients and is actively learning Spanish.

He was recruited by UT Houston in 2014 as an Assistant Professor to expand the gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy program. Dr. Singhal currently serves as Director of Endoscopy / Advanced Endoscopy at Lyndon B Johnson Hospital. He has expertise in management of biliary and pancreatic disorders and performs ERCPs, Cholangioscopy and Endoscopic ultrasound. He is also proficient in endoscopic procedures such as EMR (mucosal resection for early cancers), placement of intestinal stents, dilation of strictures and endoscopic closure of luminal defects. He has published several technical reviews and articles in the field of advanced endoscopy including endoscopic techniques to close perforations, correct fistulas and blockages of the esophagus.

His research has also focused on quality improvement in endoscopy, colorectal cancer screening in minority and other high risk populations. He has published several original articles, review articles, editorials and text book chapters. He has been invited to present his research at various national and international meetings. He has been recognized by national societies including ASGE, ACG and AMA for his contributions in patient care, education and colorectal cancer screening research. He has been recipient of prestigious American College of Gastroenterology/Astra Zeneca Award and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy – Diversity Award. He also serves as a member of ACG minority affairs committee and serves on editorial board for gastroenterology and endoscopy journals.

He also practices general gastroenterology and his other areas of interest include peptic ulcer disease, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, and inflammatory bowel disease. He is always enthusiastic about solving complex cases and providing second opinion.
