Mary McCarthy, MSN, RN, IBCLC
Mary is a registered nurse and board-certified lactation consultant with the Lactation Foundation.
“My pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding experience with my daughter led me to become a registered nurse and eventually to become a lactation consultant. I have been very fortunate to have great teachers and mentors who shared their breastfeeding knowledge and wisdom with me.
Breastfeeding can be challenging in a society that is not always understanding of the demands of feeding a newborn. Helping women with breastfeeding, especially during the early days, weeks and months is an honor and a privilege. The bravery and hard work of women facing breastfeeding challenges amazes and astounds me.
Now that I am a grandmother of two wonderful children, ages seven and nine, I see even more clearly how important it is to provide support for women who choose to become mothers. The Lactation Foundation provides me with that opportunity and for that, I am grateful.”
Mary is the primary facilitator of our Thursday support group. She obtained her Master of Science in Nursing from UTHealth in 1994 and her IBCLC in 2000.
