Paper about Sacred Vocation Program published

The Sacred Vocation Program first began around 2008 as an initiative focused on helping healthcare professionals deal with stress and burnout. The program has since been revised and expanded to reach medical residents and external organizations as well. For nearly five years, Sylvia Villarreal, MEd, MPH. has managed the program, leading residents through discussion-based and experiential sessions to guide them through reconnecting to their vocation—medicine, helping, and healing.

Villarreal, in collaboration with Woods Nash, PhD, and Thomas Cole, PhD, wrote a paper sharing about this unique program and its nurturing effects on residents from pediatrics, psychology, neurology, and other specialties. The piece is titled, “Nurturing the Healers: A Unique Program to Support Residents,” and appears in the October issue of the Journal of Graduate Medical Education.
