In 2012 and 2013, nine research projects were funded under a mini-grants program of the McGovern Center’s Campus-Wide Ethics Program. One of these studies, “Ethical Dilemma in Surgical Interventions for Fragility Hip Fractures in Older Dementia Patients” by investigators Nahid Rianon, Catherine Ambrose, Paula Knudson, and Sheryl McCurdy. The research focused on examining how clinical teams decide whether or not to surgically intervene for fragility hip fractures in older, demented patients.
The team has now been accepted to present a poster based on this study at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Geriatrics Society to be held in May. The poster will exhibit a preliminary analysis of qualitative data gathered during the research.
