In the May 25 issue of the Houston Chronicle, rising second-year medical student Michael Bagg authored an opinion piece titled “Texas Health Experts Can Address Gun Violence“. As a concerned student in Houston, a short drive from Santa Fe High School where the May 18 attack took place, Bagg suggests medical and public health experts band together to study and propose solutions for preventing gun violence. To accomplish this, he urges Texas and the Texas Medical Center to take the initiative.

Bagg, alongside fellow medical student Marina Ibraheim, recently coordinated Gun Violence and Physicians: What We Need to Know. The blue book elective was offered during Spring 2018 and included talks by clinical faculty on topics ranging from “Stopping the Bleeding” to “Patient Safety Assessment.”
