Local news station ABC 13 covered recent news about the firing of a nurse employed by Texas Children’s Hospital. The nurse’s termination resulted from social media posts to an anti-vaccine Facebook group in which health information was shared about a child admitted to the hospital who was diagnosed recently with measles.

Rebecca Lunstroth, JD, MA, was quoted regarding the relationship between moral objections to vaccines and standards of practice in pediatrics. Lunstroth noted, “If you don’t believe in vaccines, you probably shouldn’t go into pediatrics and you should be warned…that this is the standard.” Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus issued a statement that vaccines are the best protection against measles, and that they are investigating the nurse’s actions.
