Kathrine McGovern joins McGovern Day celebration

February 18 was McGovern Day at McGovern Medical School, marking three years since the transformational gift was made by the John P. McGovern Foundation. The school, which bears the McGoverns’ names (John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School), celebrates this generous gift annually. Present for this year’s celebration was Kathrine McGovern.

The McGovern Foundation’s generosity also extends to the McGovern Center, which first began as the Health and Human Spirit Program in the 1990s. In September 2004, the McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics—then known as the McGovern Center for Health, Humanities, and the Human Spirit—formally opened with Thomas Cole, PhD, as founding director. The McGovern Foundation has continuously supported the humanities in medicine and the health professions, graciously enabling the Center to offer educational and programmatic opportunities to the UTHealth and TMC communities and, especially, our students.
