Personal narrative published in medical humanities journal
Jonathan Xian, MD, published recently a personal narrative with Hektoen International, a medical humanities journal. The piece, “Lost in Translation,” appears in the Winter 2019 issue.
Xian’s narrative focuses on his relationship with Julie, sharing his experiences and observations at Julie’s side as she went through diagnosis and, later, treatment for papillary thyroid cancer. Although their relationship ended after three years, Xian reminds of the importance of listening and being present. As the narrative’s title suggests, doing so may help such that “important things will not get lost in translation.”
Xian is currently a resident in the Department of Internal Medicine who will begin a fellowship in Critical Care next academic year at McGovern Medical School.
