This course will aim to address a number of topics within the field of Cellular Neurophysiology. We will focus on molecular and cellular mechanisms of signal processing at individual synapses and neurons, as well as information processing in well-defined neuronal circuits, in both mammalian and non-mammalian systems. Possible topics include (but are not limited to) mechanisms and functional consequences of synaptic short- and long-term plasticity, novel imaging methods, and signaling processing in active dendrites. The aims of this course are to familiarize students with current research and methodological advances in Cellular Neurophysiology and to teach students critical reading of primary literature and effective presentation skills. Students will be given feedback on their presentation content and style. This course can be taken several times during a students’ graduate education.
