Tsvetkov Lab Overview
Our long-term goals are to understand how the brain changes during successful and unsuccessful aging and whether these changes can be halted to slow aging and blunt neurodegeneration. Understanding the mechanisms of brain aging is a problem of critical importance. Aging is a very complex phenomenon, and its mechanisms are poorly understood. Interestingly, some individuals age successfully, but others suffer from dementia, loss of memory, and behavior changes. Discovering coping, pathogenic or incidental mechanisms in different types of aging will provide insights to enhance our understanding of aging in general.
