Seeking to meet the needs of all students, faculty, and staff, Dean Giuseppe Colasurdo has created a new Dean’s Office, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
“While diversity has always been a cornerstone of our medical school’s foundation, this new office will codify its place in our educational environment,” Dean Colasurdo said.
The office is located within the Dean’s Office suite on the ground floor of the Medical School Building and is led by Dr. LaTanya Love and Dr. Pedro Mancias, who have each been appointed assistant deans for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. They also will both have dual appointments in the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs.

The mission of the office will be to affirm and ensure the Medical School’s commitment for diversity for our students, faculty, and staff.
“We recognize diversity as central to achieving institutional excellence and believe that it is critical for the accomplishment of the mission of the Medical School,” said Love, who is assistant dean for Admissions and Student Affairs and assistant professor of pediatrics.
Specific goals of the new office include increasing scholarships, improving the recruitment and retention of minority faculty, enhancing the cultural competence curriculum, and providing institutional support for diversity and inclusion.
“We will create a diversity plan and mission statement for the school and then work to put the plan into action items,” explained Mancias, who also is associate professor of pediatric neurology.
