seal_colorTwo new funding opportunities sponsored by The University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education and The University of Texas System are now available for faculty members: the Innovation in Health Science Education Award and the Health Science Education Small Grants Program.

The Innovation in Health Science Education Award recognizes an individual, or individuals, who have implemented a project with a documented record of innovation and achievement in undergraduate or graduate health science education, encompassing all of the health science disciplines, including educational programs for medical students, medical residents, undergraduate and graduate nursing students, dental students, public health professionals, and allied health professionals. The award recognizes outstanding and sustained achievement as a health science educator with documentation of recent innovation and accomplishment in the last five years. Nominations can come from self, from a colleague, from a local teaching academy, etc. The monetary awards are $7,500 for first place, $5,000 for second place, and $2,500 for third place. Three finalists will present their projects at the 2014 Innovations in Health Science Education Conference on February 20-21, 2014 in order to receive the final award. This monetary award will be placed into discretionary accounts at the recipient’s UT health science institution to support academic pursuits.

The Health Science Education Small Grants Program offers awards (up to $5,000 per project) to faculty members at UT health science institutions who submit a written proposal and budget for a project that strives to improve health science education by innovative approaches. Projects that demonstrate a direct, measurable, and positive impact on learners in health science education and projects with greatest potential for broader dissemination will be most competitive for these awards. Applications will be accepted from all health science disciplines, related to the education of medical, nursing, dental, allied health, public health, health information, and  graduate-level basic biomedical science students

Deadlines for both applications is 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11
