candy-46872_640The holiday season is a hard time to be away from family, and doubly so for children. At The University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center, volunteers and staff are trying to create a festive atmosphere for the patients, whether they are away from home or don’t have a home at all.

On Christmas Day, every patient in the hospital will receive a gift bag filled with donations. The most popular holiday gifts are MP3 players, battery-operated radios, basketballs, footballs, and electronic and board games. Patients also receive personal hygiene items, books, games, puzzles, stuffed animals, and candy.

HCPC welcomes donations by Dec. 24 from individuals, churches and faith-based organizations, businesses, and civic groups.

To make a donation, or for more information, please contact Elana Hoffman, volunteer coordinator, or 713.741.8691.
