Some people dream of seeing their name in lights. But second-year medical student Genesis Licona is larger than life for travelers along U.S. Hwy. 59 between Kirby and Greenbriar.
As part of a new billboard campaign for UTHealth, Licona’s smiling image will remain on display for the first quarter of 2014.
The billboard represents Licona’s first foray into modeling. She said she is honored to represent UTHealth.
“It’s an amazing feeling to see yourself in such a huge advertising structure,” she said. “I was very surprised to be asked to be photographed and felt very fortunate to be part of something so big for my school.”
Originally from Los Angeles, Licona’s family lives in Conroe. She graduated from Texas A&M University before starting medical school at UTHealth.
Licona has served as the SIGHT (Students Improving Global Health in Texas) Roatan Trip Leader and External MAPS chair for the Student National Medical Association. She is focused on her future.
“My main plan for the future is to become an excellent physician who strives to help those in great need by providing quality healthcare and empathy for all patients. I also plan to extend my work globally and take part on international medical initiatives to third world countries. Lastly, I would like to give back to all those who helped me pursue my dreams in medicine by becoming involved in academic medicine,” she said.
