If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study investigating the relationship between anxiety and empathy in children with autism spectrum disorders.
This study is being conducted by a psychology doctoral student at the University of Houston, Natalie Raff.
Parents whose children are between the ages of 8 and 12 and have received a formal diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder will be eligible to participate. Parents of children who also have been diagnosed with an intellectual disability (formerly termed “mental retardation”) will not be eligible for the current study. If willing to participate, parents will be asked to fill out several online questionnaires about their child.
Parents whose children fit the above criteria and would like to participate can click the link or contact the study investigator to receive an active link to the study.
If you wish to receive the questionnaires in hard copy via postal mail instead, please contact the study investigator, Natalie Raff, at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Dr. Thomas Kubiszyn, faculty adviser, at 713.743.9865.
Three randomly selected participants will receive either a $25 gift certificate to amazon.com or a donation of equal value will be made to an autism research organization.
This project has been reviewed by the University of Houston Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects (713) 743-920 and also by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
