The University of Texas System Physical Activity Challenge is now open for registration. This challenge encourages members of the UTHealth community to take at least 10,000 steps a day from April 6 – May 17, and engages each of the 15 UT System institutions in a friendly competition that helps employees and students meet their physical activity goals. Members participating in the challenge will receive free health tools, and the winning institution in each category will receive the traveling trophy, bragging rights, and, most important, a healthy and fit workforce.
The interactive challenge will help participants boost their health and vitality by tracking daily physical activity steps and/or minutes through the Living Well Health Platform powered by Provant online tracker. This online tool can be used by benefits-eligible employees year-round to increase wellness, not just during the challenge period.
Get ready to move!
By completing 10,000 steps or equivalent activity per day you can feel great about leading an active, healthy lifestyle. Join the physical activity challenge and find out what 10,000 steps/day can do for you. While the physical activity challenge is sponsored by the UT System Office of Employee Benefits and geared toward UT Select members, the entire UTHealth community is encouraged to get active. All students, residents, fellows, and employees who are non-UT Select members will have a dedicated registration and tracking website.
Registration and challenge instructions:
Starting March 2, register for the challenge through your Living Well online wellness profile. Click on “Sign Up Now” on the Living Well health platform home screen. Non-UT Select members can sign up through this registration site.
Complete your Living Well Health Assessment by May 17 if you have not previously done so. Non-UT Select members may check the health assessment box on the provided registration site.
From April 5 to May 17, log at least 10,000 steps per day, five days per week (50,000 per week) or equivalent physical activity in the Pedometer or Cardio logs on the Living Well Health Platform. Non-UT Select members will log their steps through this site.
The Living Well Health Platform online program will convert all of your activity into steps – even vacuuming, biking and gardening! If you do not see your activity listed, please find the closest activity to what you accomplished. Choosing “other” will not count toward the final numbers. If you skip logging your activity, make sure to go back and fill it in.
Registration reward: All UT Select members who register will receive a pedometer and a manual step log card/step converter (called a starter kit).
Midway reward: All UT Select members who complete two out of the first three weeks of the challenge and complete the online health assessment will receive a T-shirt.
Completer reward: All UT Select members who complete 5 out of 6 weeks of the challenge and completes the online health assessment will receive a picnic blanket.
Contact the Wellness Ambassador closest to you to pick up your starter kit. All non-UT Select members can contact Julie Van Orden at Julie.A.VanOrden@uth.tmc.edu to receive their rewards. (Please note that the health incentives for non-UT Select members may be different.)
