Dr. Bryant Boutwell, holder of the John P. McGovern, M.D. Professorship in Oslerian Medicine, was elected to the Board of Governors for the American Osler Society (AOS) at the organization’s 44th Annual Meeting in Baltimore.
A faculty member at UTHealth’s McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics, Boutwell is the author of several books, including the history of McGovern Medical School. His blog, ‘Bout Time, provides a historical overview UTHealth and the Texas Medical Center, including articles about Sir William Osler.
He is also a Distinguished Teaching Professor and a member of The University of Texas System’s Shine Academy of Health Science Education.
The AOS, founded in 1970, promotes the history of medicine and the medical humanities in the name of Sir William Osler (1849-1919). Osler represents a timeless role model for professionalism in medicine and the importance the medical humanities, including the history of medicine. Boutwell was first elected to this international group of medical historians in 2005 and has been active in the AOS through annual presentations and service.
