The Delta Chapter of McGovern Medical School’s Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Society, the nation’s only honor medical society, met on March 16 for the Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony to honor the newly elected medical students and others.
The top 25 percent of the senior medical school class is eligible for election, and ultimately 1/6 are elected.
Criteria for election include ongoing academic excellence, as well as leadership, research, education, and community service.
Forty medical students were honored as well as several resident/fellow, faculty and alumni members of McGovern Medical School.
Dr. Eugene Boisaubin, councilor of the Chapter, noted that although medical students are nominated primarily thru criteria available in the Student Affairs office, the other groups may be nominated by residents/fellows and faculty in the Medical School, and new nominations will be accepted later this year.
