Last year, Priya Weerasinghe, M.D., MSc, Ph.D., assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, together with other faculty from UTHealth, Sri Lanka, and India organized the first international conference on “Natural Product Genomics and Drug Discovery.”
This conference brought together investigators from the United States, India, and Sri Lanka and to discuss modern and realistic issues pertaining to natural products and interactions between traditional and modern medicine and measures to improve it.
This year Weerasinghe is the conference chair for the Second International Conference on Natural Products Genomics and Drug Discovery, which is set for June 23-26 in Sri Lanka.
Last year, UTHealth faculty presenters included Maximilian Buja, M.D., professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, and Jeffrey Actor, Ph.D., professor of pathology and laboratory medicine.
This year the keynote presenter will be Robert Hunter, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Distinguished Chair in Molecular Pathology. McGovern Medical School speakers include Robert Brown, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and Harvey S. Rosenberg Chair in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Ryan Kieser, M.D., internal medicine resident.
