LaTanya Love, M.D., has been appointed vice president for diversity and leadership development at UTHealth.
In this new role, Love will develop strategic initiatives, accountability systems and partnerships that promote a diverse and inclusive climate. She also will promote initiatives to improve student well-being, leadership development and overall success.
Love will continue her roles at McGovern Medical School – associate dean for Admissions and Student Affairs and associate dean for Diversity and Inclusion.
Upon completing her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at McGovern Medical School in 2004 and a chief residency in 2005, Love was recruited to the faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics. One year later, she joined the leadership team in Admissions and Students Affairs at McGovern Medical School and also was named medical director of Student Health & Counseling Services.
“Dr. Love’s experience as a leader and an advocate for students, faculty and staff further strengthens our commitment to an inclusive environment,” wrote UTHealth President Dr. Giuseppe Colasurdo in a university-wide memo.
Goals for the new position include unconscious bias training for search committees and academic leadership, educational opportunities that focus on cultural competency and health equity, recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and student body, expanding leadership training opportunities and developing a multi-dimensional student well-being and resilience program.
