Run Wang, M.D., professor and Cecil M. Crigler, M.D. Chair in Urology at McGovern Medical School, has been elected to a two-year term as president of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA).
Sexual medicine is the study of sexual health. Sexual dysfunctions are a common problem affecting a reported 43 percent of women and 31 percent of men, according to an article in Current Psychiatry Reports.
“Dr. Wang is a leader in the field of male urology and men’s health and is one of the best surgeons for erectile dysfunction in the country,” said Steven Canfield, M.D., associate professor of urology and holder of the C.R. Bard, Inc./Edward J. McGuire, M.D. Distinguished Chair in Urology.
“It is a great honor to be elected president of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, which is a preeminent society in this field,” Canfield added.
Wang has published extensively in the fields of urology, andrology, men’s health and sexual medicine. He is a co-editor, guest editor, associate editor, editorial member and reviewer for numerous journals and served as a panelist for the International Consultation on Sexual Medicine in 2009 and 2015.
Wang holds honorary, concurrent and visiting professorships at national and international universities. Also, he has a joint appointment as the director of sexual medicine in the Department of Urology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
