Working parents and caregivers who strive for work-life balance now have a new tool to help them meet the daily challenges.
Care.com is a new benefit for all UTHealth employees, which offers access to last-minute child and adult care.
“UTHealth leadership knows how hard it can be to balance work life and home life, especially when you have family to care for. The Care.com benefit gives our employees another tool to help them provide qualified care for their loved ones. There is great peace of mind knowing your family is taken care of and that you always have a backup when you need it. We hope that UTHealth employees are as excited to use this program as we are to provide it,” said Charlie Figari, vice president and chief auxiliary enterprises officer.
Employees are encouraged to sign up for free at UTHealth.Care.com with their UTHealth user name and password. In-home emergency child and senior care services are charged a $6 per hour co-pay, while in-center child care costs $10 per child per day. Each employee is eligible for up to 15 calendar days per year.
In addition to the back-up care benefit, employees also have free access to the entire Care.com website. The site provides access to high quality caregivers for a variety of needs, including tutors, housekeepers, and pet sitters.
“Providing emergency child and elder care is an important new component of our commitment to a family friendly workplace,” added Kevin Morano, Ph.D., associate dean for Faculty Affairs and associate vice president, Faculty Affairs and Development, who was instrumental in bringing this service to UTHealth.
