First-year medical students learn new clinical skills during the Doctoring 1 course during the month of October. Each week students, working alongside standardized patients, focused on different skills sets including vital signs, neurological, musculoskeletal, abdominal, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and head, ears, eyes, nose and throat . The students learned how to use tools such as ultrasound, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes and the panoptic scope on the SAM and SIM manikins as well as on standardized patients.
