Online abstract submission is now open for the upcoming 2018 Houston Medication Safety Symposium April 13, hosted by McGovern Medical School’s Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine and the University of Houston College of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy.
The symposium, with a theme of “A New Look at Reducing Prescription Burden & Misuse,” will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Cooley Center (7440 Cambridge St.) and final approval is currently pending on free continuing education credits. Proposed topics for the event include “Prescribing Cascade,” “Opioids & Chronic Pain,” “Medication Errors,” and “Palliative Care.” Free online registration for the event also will be opening soon.
Abstracts are invited for poster or podium presentations with special consideration given to podium sessions focused on medication safety and prescription abuse. Abstracts must be 300 words or less, include introduction, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions, and a title, authors, and affiliations. The submission deadline is March 16. The program is chaired by Dr. Rajender R. Aparasu, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy at the University of Houston, and Dr. Holly M. Holmes, associate professor and director of the Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at McGovern Medical School.
