Dean Barbara J. Stoll invites the Medical School students, faculty, and staff to its McGovern Day Celebration in recognition of the John P. McGovern Foundation’s transformational gift to Medical School in 2015, which helped advance medical training, scientific discovery, and innovation at the school.
The celebration begins with a round of speeches and a dessert reception at 11 a.m., Monday March 2 in the Leather Lounge of the Medical School Building.
The 2020 edition of McGovern Day also continues the celebration of McGovern Medical School’s 50th Anniversary. Attendees can collect a 50th Anniversary pin and will be treated to videos from the Medical School’s McGovern Time Capsules series which features the history of McGovern Medical School told by individuals who have helped shape it.
McGovern Medical School, which bears the name of John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern, hosts the annual event to celebrate the McGovern Foundation’s commitment to the future of the Medical School and medical education.
The late John P. McGovern, MD, was a pediatrician, allergist, immunologist and educator who helped shape the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in its formative years. Almost 55 years after establishing his foundation, now led by his wife Kathrine, Dr. McGovern’s vision continues to transform the TMC through numerous gifts supporting the art and science of medicine.
