New division director appointed for gastroenterology

Following a national search, Dr. David McPherson, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, has announced a new director of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Effective March 15, Brooks D. Cash, M.D. has taken on the division director role within the Department of Internal Medicine and also has been appointed chief of the service line at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.

The American College of Cardiology will award Dr. K. Lance Gould, professor of cardiovascular medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at McGovern Medical School, its 2018 Distinguished Scientist Award-Translational Domain in honor of his contributions to the cardiovascular profession.


Man at psychologist Researchers seek to improve patient education through PCORI grant

Researchers from McGovern Medical School and the School of Public Health are partnering with the Harris Health System to advance patient and stakeholder engagement in research.  Dr. Ruby Benjamin-Garner, assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, received the Eugene Washington Engagement Award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to provide research education to patients and other stakeholders within the Harris Health system and to establish a research advisory committee within the system, efforts that will facilitate patient and stakeholder engagement in research.
